About the Timber
You will be impressed by Shire's use of natural products and their environmental credentials. A high quality timber product starts with high quality timber, so it is important to know exactly what timber is being used for your arbour. The most commonly used timber for garden buildings is pine (pinus) as this is widely available for a very cheap price, however all of Shire's garden buildings are constructed using high quality spruce (picea) and is sourced from sustainable sourced timber. Spruce is more durable than pine and provides a higher quality finish. This timber is slow grown unlike fast grown British and Eastern Europe's timber, being slow grown timber means a tighter grain, less sap and with far fewer knots. The timber used on Shire's range is therefore a more durable timber that will last much longer than other timbers. Additional Details about your Order
This arbour is pressure treated. Pressure treatment is almost colourless, except for a light green tint caused by the copper content in the preservative. In the course of time, the treatment greys, but this does not affect the quality. This means you do not immediately need to add additional treatment to the arbour yourself. However, many customers like to personalise their arbours by adding an exterior wood treatment which also adds additional protection to the timber and a splash of colour. Shire recommends Protek Royal Exterior wood finish, available from elbec in many different colours. This is also a great way to refresh the look of your arbour over time.
