Where should firewood be stored?
Firewood is best kept in firewood storage or a log box. It can be protected from rain and snow but also release moisture into the air. Wood stored under cover should be stacked bark side down. Non-covered firewood should be stored bark-side up.
Can I store firewood in a plastic bin?
You can store firewood in a plastic bin if the wood is completely dry. Wood that is not dry may release moisture, which can accumulate as condensation, in a non-vented plastic bin.
How long can firewood be stored outside?
Most heat is released from firewood stored for a minimum of 2-3 years. Firewood can be stored longer but may deteriorate in the rain or due to insects.
How long to store wood before burning?
You should store wood for 12-18 months before burning. Storing green firewood allows time for it to dry (season), and seasoning firewood ensures a clean and efficient burn.
