Ways to Make the Most of Your Grizedale Log Cabin

There are loads of ways to make the most of the fantastic new space that a log cabin provides you, but the Grizedale will allow you to do so with style and sophistication. If you love to entertain guests, then a log cabin is an ideal purchase. As the backdrop for a summer BBQ with friends and family or as a place to hold an atmospheric dinner party, the Grizedale would be perfect. It could also make an excellent guest room if you regularly have visitors to stay the night and would like to be able to give them their own space. If it’s a more practical use you have in mind, then a log cabin would also make an excellent home office or a room for your spare time activities. Away from any possible distractions in your home and in a calming garden setting, many find that a log cabin provides the perfect environment for concentrating on work or other activities. But really, there’s more than enough room for whatever you want to use the space for. Whether you’ve dreamed of having your very own bar that could become the envy of your family and friends, or perhaps somewhere to use as a home workshop with a difference, the Grizedale could provide the flexibility and room that you need. With many alternative sizes, bespoke options and made to measure cabins available, we are certain you’ll find the garden building that is right for you and that it will soon become a place you love spending your time, however you decide to use it.

Why Others Tell Us They Love the Grizedale

Lovers of the traditional are usually drawn to the Grizedale, and we think that it’s easy to see why. The frontage boasts elegant Georgian-style glazing in the windows and double doors, giving the Grizedale the classic look that ensures its popularity. The windows and doors make use of proper, handcrafted joinery, a feature seldom found on log cabins sold elsewhere. This glazed frontage also makes sure that buckets of natural light can flood the interior, and when combined with the generous headroom inside, a spacious and bright space in which spending time is a real pleasure is created. It is framed by a traditional apex roof that helps give the Grizedale its “cosy-cabin” appearance that certainly wouldn’t be out of place in an alpine setting. Both windows are opening, meaning that you can turn the interior into a breezy, cool place during the summer with the windows and doors thrown open, or shut yourself cosily inside when the weather is cooler. Our customers often like to add their own personal touch by painting their log cabins and they look fantastic in any colour. Shire recommends that you use Protek paint, available from elbec in a wide variety of colours. By using Protek Royal Exterior, you can make the Grizedale look exactly how you want it while adding extra protection to the timber. Whether you love bold, bright colours or a more natural wood finish, Protek have a colour to suit any taste.

            Features

Like all Shire Log Cabins, the Grizedale is built to high specifications that ensure it will stand up to the test of time.  With 4-way corner joints and interlocking logs of the highest quality used as standard, we are certain you will be impressed by the strength, stability and sturdy feel of the Grizedale Log Cabin. The Shire draught seal system on all external windows and doors also ensures that you will be snug inside your cabin all year round. Made from 28mm thick wall logs as standard, you will find this gives the interior plenty of insulation for year-round use. However, many customers opt to upgrade the thickness of their walls for an even cosier interior and you can choose from 34mm, 44mm and 70mm thick wall logs for your cabin. On top of this, the window glazing can be easily upgraded to improve insulation, to either toughened glass or double glazing. Quality Celotex roof and floor insulation can also be included as part of our bespoke service to help ensure a snug interior whatever the weather. The door can be locked securely using the mortise lock and key provided, giving you peace of mind when leaving items inside. The Grizedale, like all Shire Log Cabins, can be dismantled and rebuilt should you ever decide to move, a useful feature when investing in a log cabin. We’re pleased to offer the option of booking our dedicated professionals who will assemble your log cabin quickly and correctly. Alternatively, you are free to make use of the detailed instructions included and construct it yourself.

            About the Timber

You will be impressed by Shire's use of natural products and their environmental credentials. A high quality timber log cabin starts with high quality timber, so it is important to know exactly what timber is being used for your log cabin. The most commonly used timber for garden buildings is pine (pinus) as this is widely available for a very cheap price, however all of Shire's garden buildings are constructed using high quality spruce (picea) and is sourced from Siberia and Scandinavia under strict FSC guidance. Spruce is more durable than pine and provides a higher quality finish. This timber is slow grown unlike fast grown British and Eastern Europe's timber, being slow grown timber means a tighter grain, less sap and with far fewer knots. The timber used on Shire's log cabins is therefore a more durable timber that will last much longer than other timbers used on log cabins. Spruce is therefore the timber of choice for companies such as Shire who always look to produce the best garden building.

            Base

It is important that the base for your log cabin is firm and level. You can request 'Guidelines for Preparing a Concrete Base' through our 'Contact Us' Section.
